Hello All,
My son Skyler is nine years old. He was born 10 wks premature due to maternal preecclampsia. He has had several problems related to prematurity over the years and some other problems that may or may not be related to prematurity. We are very open with him about many things. He knows he was a preemie and had physical therapy and language therapy in the past. He currently receives OT for sensory integration disorder. He has also been diagnosed with ADHD, TS, OCD and GAD (asthma too). The Ts/OCd and anxiety are more recent diagnoses which we think were brought out by a strep infection (PANDAS). Anyway, he's very sensitive and really wants to be like everyone else. He likes to be able to do things himself..worries what others think. My question is how much do we tell him of these problems? I don't want him to think he is defective or anything like that. It seems like so much for a little guy, we as his parents can hardly absorb all this information. We are currently seeking info from NIMH regarding a current study for PANDAS. He doesn't know about it - I don't want him to worry about Strep throat too. I guess you get the gist of this post. Any advice would be truly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Robin
